A powerful car bomb exploded outside the Frontier Constabulary (FC) headquarters in Quetta, Pakistan, on Tuesday, resulting in the death of 10 people and injuring over 32 others, officials reported. Balochistan Health Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar cautioned that the death toll could rise further, according to Dawn.
The explosion was so intense that it was heard across Model Town and nearby areas, shattering windows of homes and commercial buildings.
### The Attack
Police confirmed that four assailants inside the vehicle stopped in front of the paramilitary compound’s entrance. After engaging in a fierce shootout with the military, they detonated the car bomb. Local news stations and CCTV footage captured the incident, showing the car halting before the explosion, followed by gunfire.
Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti condemned the attack, stating that security forces returned fire and killed all four attackers.
### Medical Response
An emergency has been declared in hospitals following the blast. The injured were swiftly transported to Civil Hospital Quetta, where emergency protocols are in place.
BMC Hospital and the Trauma Center also declared emergencies upon orders from Health Minister Kakar and Health Secretary Mujeeb-ur-Rehman. Medical personnel, including doctors, nurses, and paramedics, were called in on emergency duty to care for the victims.
Chief Minister Bugti expressed resolve against terrorism, saying, “Terrorists cannot break the nation’s resolve through cowardly acts, and the sacrifices of our people and security forces will not go in vain.”
### Ongoing Investigation
Rescue teams and police have cordoned off the area as investigations continue. A senior police official confirmed that inquiries are underway.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet. However, suspicion falls on separatist outfits in Balochistan. The region has a history of violence perpetrated by groups such as the banned Baloch Liberation Army, which target civilians and security forces in their campaign for independence.
