**PCB Suspends NOCs for Players Participating in Overseas T20 Leagues**

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced the suspension of all No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) for players participating in overseas T20 leagues. The decision, revealed by PCB Chief Operating Officer Sumair Ahmad Syed on September 29, impacts key players including Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan, and others.
Pakistani cricketers have been regularly featuring in various international T20 tournaments such as the Big Bash League and ILT20. However, following Pakistan’s defeat in the 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup final against India, the PCB has taken the drastic step of revoking these NOCs.
According to an official PCB notice, issued with the approval of the PCB Chairman, “All No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for players with respect to participation in leagues and other out-of-country tournaments are hereby put on hold until further orders.”
This move is widely perceived as a response to Pakistan’s performance in the Asia Cup, where despite their strong showing, the Men in Green lost only three matches in the tournament—all of which were against India. Notably, they were reduced to 20/3 while defending a target of 146 in the final but ultimately fell short.
Looking ahead, the PCB plans to implement a performance-based system governing the issuance of NOCs. While the exact criteria remain unclear, this approach signals that players will need to meet specific performance benchmarks to gain permission for overseas league participation.
In addition, Pakistan’s premier domestic First-Class competition is set to commence in October, after being postponed from its original September 22 start date. ESPNcricinfo has reported that details regarding the NOCs, including possible exemptions and the duration of the suspension, are still awaited.
The coming months will be critical for players aiming to balance domestic commitments with opportunities abroad, especially under the new performance-driven regulations set by the PCB.
