**TCS Faces Scrutiny Over Employment Practices and Cybersecurity Concerns in US and UK**
*BENGALURU:* Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is currently under intense scrutiny as lawmakers in both the United States and the United Kingdom seek answers from CEO K Krithivasan regarding the company’s employment practices and cybersecurity protocols.
In the US, Senators Charles E. Grassley and Richard J. Durbin, members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, have written to TCS CEO K Krithivasan expressing concerns about the company’s hiring strategies. The senators highlighted that while TCS recently laid off approximately 60 employees at its Jacksonville office, the firm continues to file a significant number of H-1B visa applications.
During the 2025 fiscal year, TCS received approval for 5,505 H-1B visas, making it the second-largest employer of newly approved H-1B beneficiaries in the United States. The senators have asked TCS to clarify whether the company prioritizes hiring foreign workers over qualified American candidates, especially amid ongoing layoffs.
Furthermore, TCS is under investigation by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) for allegations that it fired older American workers in favor of hiring newly recruited South Asian H-1B employees. The senators’ letter stated, “TCS is doing itself no favors by replacing Americans with H-1Bs during this investigation.”
In the United Kingdom, Labour MP Liam Byrne has raised questions regarding TCS’s involvement in recent cybersecurity incidents affecting major companies such as Jaguar Land Rover, Marks & Spencer (M&S), and Co-op. In a letter dated September 26, Byrne referenced BBC reports indicating that the M&S data breach was triggered by a ransomware email allegedly sent using the account of a TCS employee.
As TCS navigates these complex challenges on two continents, both governments are closely monitoring the situation, demanding transparency and accountability from the IT services giant.
