**Mumbai: 21-Year-Old College Student Dies in Hit-and-Run Accident Near Sion Bridge**
A tragic hit-and-run accident claimed the life of 21-year-old Mayur Kishor Rai, an undergraduate student at Ruia College, Matunga, on the evening of October 4. The unfortunate incident took place near the Sion Bridge incline on Dr. B.A. Road, Sion East.
### Incident Details
Mayur, a resident of Lallubhai Compound in Mankhurd, lived with his family and routinely commuted to college on his KTM Duke 250 motorcycle (registration MH-03-EJ-5365), which was registered in his sister Deepa’s name.
On the day of the accident, Mayur left for college as usual and informed his mother, Sunita Rai, a 45-year-old social worker, at around 6:30 PM that he was on his way home. However, at approximately 8:15 PM, Sunita received a disturbing phone call from an unknown person using Mayur’s mobile phone, informing her that his bike had met with an accident near the Sion Bridge.
The family immediately rushed to the scene by taxi but could not locate Mayur. While en route to Sion Hospital, they spotted his motorcycle parked near the zebra crossing on Dr. B.A. Road, where police were already present.
### Discovery and Medical Response
Upon getting out of the taxi, the family found Mayur lying unconscious beside a small tempo. Police promptly called for an ambulance, and Mayur was rushed to Sion Hospital. Sadly, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Traffic police on patrol reported that bystanders had informed them about the accident and that an injured person was being transported to the hospital in a tempo with registration number MH-48-CB-3469.
### Investigation Findings
Further investigation revealed that local bystanders had placed the injured Mayur in the tempo for transportation after the accident. However, as no one accompanied him to the hospital, the tempo driver—allegedly frightened—left Mayur near the zebra crossing unattended before leaving the scene.
The police have registered a case against the unknown vehicle driver for causing death by negligent and rash driving, citing relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act. Efforts are currently underway to identify and apprehend the driver involved in this hit-and-run.
