The Supreme Court has issued a notice regarding a plea that seeks the removal of an artificial intelligence-generated video released by the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Assam unit. The video, posted on the social media platform X, allegedly stokes fears about Muslim domination in Assam if the BJP loses the upcoming elections.
A bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta heard the case and issued notices to the Centre, the Assam government, and X (formerly Twitter).
### Concerns Over the Video
The plea, filed by journalist Qurban Ali and Senior Advocate Anjana Prakash, highlights that the video presents a “grossly false narrative” suggesting Muslims are taking over Assam. The video reportedly shows Muslims occupying various locations across Assam and illegal migrants acquiring government land.
According to the petitioners, the video posted on September 15, 2025, features visibly Muslim individuals — identifiable by skullcaps and burqas — taking control of tea estates, Guwahati Airport, Guwahati Accolad, Assam Ranghar, Guwahati Stadium, Rang Ghar, and other parts of Guwahati town.
### What the Plea States
The plea contends that the video falsely claims that illegal Muslim migrants are entering Assam and acquiring government land, ultimately portraying the state as having a 90% Muslim population. The petitioners argue that this narrative is misleading and incites communal tensions.
### Legal Action Sought
The applicants assert that the BJP Assam has a constitutional obligation to uphold India’s secular values. Instead, they claim the video from the party’s official handle “openly targets, vilifies, and demonizes Muslims.”
The petitioners have requested the registration of a First Information Report (FIR) or initiation of contempt proceedings against those responsible for creating and distributing the video.
The Supreme Court has scheduled the next hearing for October 28, 2025, to further examine the matter.
