**Shivamogga: Shocking Incident of Snake Abuse Surfaces in Karnataka**
A disturbing incident of snake abuse has come to light from Shivamogga, Karnataka, where several men reportedly tortured two Indian rock pythons and a cobra. The alleged abuse occurred in the Agumbe rainforest and was recorded on video for the purpose of making social media reels.
The videos showing the torture quickly went viral across social media platforms. In the clips, one man can be seen tapping the mouths of the reptiles, while another person holds them. The main accused behind the videos has been identified as Mohammed Irfan, who went into hiding following the widespread outrage.
Members of Irfan’s group are also visible in the footage, standing by and watching the abuse unfold. According to a report by *Deccan Herald*, the incident took place on Mathur Road in Indiranagar, Shivamogga, on a Monday.
Mohammed Irfan is known as a self-proclaimed ‘snake rescuer’ from Shivamogga. However, multiple videos have surfaced online showing him dragging snakes along the road and his friends carrying the reptiles on their shoulders.
In response to the viral videos, Bhadravati forest officials immediately launched an operation to locate the main accused. Acting on the directions from the office of Forest Minister Eshwar Khandre, forest authorities conducted a raid at Irfan’s residence in Shivamogga.
During the raid, officials recovered three Indian rock pythons and two cobras stored in plastic bags. All these reptiles are classified as Schedule-I species and are protected under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972.
The state forest minister has ordered strict action against those responsible for these violations. Furthermore, an investigation has been initiated into multiple research centres in Agumbe to ensure compliance with wildlife protection laws.
This appalling case has sparked widespread outrage and calls for greater awareness and strict enforcement of wildlife protection norms in the region.
