Number Of Foreign Residents In Japan Reaches Record 3.95 Million

By nationality and region, Chinese nationals make up the largest group of foreign residents in Japan, totaling 900,738. They are followed by Vietnamese residents at 660,483 and South Koreans at 409,584.

Meanwhile, the number of foreigners staying illegally in Japan stood at 71,229 as of July. This represents a decrease of 3,634 individuals, or 4.9 percent, compared with six months earlier.

Among those staying illegally, Vietnamese nationals accounted for the largest share with 13,070, followed by Thais at 10,924 and South Koreans at 10,286.

The Japanese government has set a goal to reduce the number of people overstaying their visas to zero.
