An adult female bear measuring approximately 1.3 meters in length and her cub, about 66 centimeters long, were discovered inside a trap set in Nishino around 5:30 p.m. on October 13th. According to city officials, both animals were euthanized the following morning.
This recent event marks the fifth bear to be killed in Nishino since the beginning of October. However, authorities have yet to pinpoint the exact locations where these bears have been appearing.
The mother bear and her cub had previously been captured on camera on October 2nd. Additionally, on September 26th, a man walking his dog in a local park was injured after being attacked by a bear. Investigators are currently working to determine whether the same animals were involved in that incident.
Officials report that multiple bears continue to be sighted repeatedly in the area, urging residents to remain vigilant and exercise caution.
Meanwhile, in the southern Hokkaido town of Kikonai, a bear was spotted walking through the yard of a vacant house at around 6:30 a.m. on October 14th. This marks the fourth sighting at the same location between October 9th and 14th.
Furthermore, evidence of chestnuts being eaten on the property was found, prompting local police to increase patrols and warn residents to stay alert and cautious.
