Nepal and Oman have officially qualified for the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The two teams confirmed their spots during the Super Six stage of the Asia-EAP Regional Final held in Al Amerat.
They will join a strong lineup of qualified teams including hosts India and Sri Lanka, along with Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, South Africa, United States, West Indies, Ireland, New Zealand, Pakistan, Canada, and Italy at the upcoming mega event.
**How They Qualified**
Nepal and Oman secured their World Cup berths following the United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) crucial win over Samoa by 77 runs. This victory boosted UAE’s standing in the qualifiers, solidifying Nepal and Oman’s positions in the top two spots and paving their way to the World Cup.
Out of the six teams competing in this stage, three will qualify for the 20-team World Cup scheduled from February 6 to March 7, 2026. Notably, this will be only the second time the T20 World Cup uses the expanded 20-team format, which was first introduced in 2024.
**Historical Context**
Both Nepal and Oman are making their third appearance at the T20 World Cup. Oman previously qualified in 2016 and 2024, while Nepal appeared in the 2014 and 2024 editions. Currently, both teams lead their respective groups in the Super Six stage, showcasing strong performances throughout the qualifiers.
**Upcoming Challenge**
With UAE’s recent win, they have accumulated four points and are eyeing the final qualification spot. However, Japan remains a contender, holding two matches in hand—including a direct encounter against UAE. If Japan wins both upcoming games within the next three days, they could surpass UAE and clinch the last World Cup berth.
