The Point of No Return in Dying Light: The Beast

The point of no return is a moment past which anything you’ve left undone will stay undone. Quests fail, rewards stay unearned, and storylines end. As a zombie apocalypse story, it would follow that Dying Light: The Beast has a point of no return. But does it?

The answer is no. Dying Light: The Beast does not have a point of no return. There is no moment in the campaign that locks you out of active side quests or open-world activities. While some quests do have failure or different outcome states, these instances are few and far between.

What Dying Light: The Beast does have is a final mission that you must complete once you start it. Before you begin, the game gives you a warning message. Once the final mission starts, the game automatically pushes you into its longest series of cutscenes yet and locks you out of the rest of the open world.

After you complete the story and watch the credits roll, you’ll reenter the world back at the Town Hall. The game will briefly congratulate you, and you can then go back out and finish anything and everything you left undone. Side quests and exploration objectives remain unaffected by final mission completion.

This design choice works in large part because the optional side stories are mostly self-contained narratives. They all tie into the main story but don’t require any specific amount of progress beyond having a soft level requirement.

In summary, Dying Light: The Beast allows players the freedom to explore, complete side quests, and accomplish open-world activities without the pressure of a strict point of no return—until the very final mission begins.
