This 1951 Willys-Overland CJ-3A has a rich history, having been used at the Boston Harbor fuel dock before being placed into barn storage in 1971. It remained stored until it was removed and refurbished in 2018.
The comprehensive restoration included overhauling the 134.2ci inline-four engine, the three-speed manual transmission, and axles. Braking and suspension components were replaced, along with the tub and seats. The exterior was repainted red, restoring its classic appearance.
Equipment on this CJ-3A features 16″ steel wheels mounted with Firestone tires, a black canvas soft top and doors, and a folding windshield. Additional features include a rear PTO, a tow ball, side steps, and a heater to enhance comfort and utility.
During the refurbishment, the body was removed from the frame, the tub replaced, and the truck repainted in red. The suspension and braking systems were fully overhauled, and Rugged Ridge locking front hubs were installed for added durability.
Inside, the replacement seats are trimmed in gray vinyl. The interior also includes lap belts, a body-color metal dashboard, and a heater. Instrumentation consists of a 60-mph speedometer complemented by gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, coolant temperature, and amperage. The five-digit odometer currently reads 663 miles.
The rebuilt 134.2ci L-Head inline-four engine was upgraded with a 12-volt electrical system and a Pertronix ignition, enhancing reliability and performance. Power is delivered to the rear wheels or all four through a three-speed manual transmission coupled with a dual-range transfer case.
Additional mechanical refurbishments include a frame overhaul, installation of a Herm overdrive unit, and rebuilding of the transmission, transfer case, and axles.
This CJ-3A was purchased by the seller in 2024 and is offered with detailed refurbishment photos and a document outlining the vehicle’s history and restoration work. The sale includes a New York registration in the seller’s name, which serves as the ownership document.
