Battlefield 6 REDSEC Mode Guide
Battlefield 6 introduces a new mode called REDSEC, a battle royale experience packed with diverse game modes, weapon rarity, optional missions, and the classic encroaching ring of fire. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know about REDSEC — from general tips and gameplay mechanics to reviving and mission details.
What is REDSEC?
REDSEC is a free-to-play battle royale mode within Battlefield 6. Players drop into a large map, scavenge for weapons, complete optional missions for powerful gear, and fight other players. All of this happens while a ring of fire gradually shrinks the playable area, forcing players into smaller zones. The aim is simple: be the last player or team standing.
After selecting REDSEC, you can choose from three primary modes:
- Gauntlet: Focuses on completing missions to survive. Keep completing objectives until only one player or team remains.
- Duos: Teams of two players, with 50 teams on the map.
- Squads: Teams of four players, with 25 teams on the map.
Duos and Squads are your classic battle royale modes, while Gauntlet emphasizes mission completion as a survival mechanism.
What Should I Do First in REDSEC?
Your ultimate goal in REDSEC is to be the last person alive. Every decision you make should work toward this aim. Here are some basic steps to get started:
- Land in a location with few or no other teams to reduce early conflicts.
- Search crates for weapons and gear—this includes grenades, airstrikes, and other equipment.
- Choose and complete optional missions to earn powerful rewards.
- Stay ahead of the encroaching ring of fire by moving toward the center of the next safe zone.
- Engage other players when necessary, or avoid conflict if you’re not ready.
Each time the circle shrinks, your safe area becomes smaller, often leaving just enough space for two teams to survive. Use this time to build up your gear and position strategically. Other players may try to stop you—be ready to fight or flee as the situation demands.
How Weapons and Gear Work in REDSEC
You start each match equipped only with a pistol and a knife. From there, the search begins for better weapons suitable for your class and playstyle.
Weapons are color-coded by rarity and quality, ranked from lowest to highest as follows:
- Common (Gray)
- Uncommon (Green)
- Rare (Blue)
- Advanced (Purple)
- Superior (Gold)
- Personal Favorite (Red) — more on this below.
The more attachments a weapon has, the better its performance, and the higher it ranks on this scale. Don’t worry if you don’t find a powerful weapon immediately—there are ways to upgrade your guns from green to blue and beyond.
Keep an eye out for weapon containers scattered around the map—these look like crates, cases, and safes located in compounds, inside vehicle trunks, and other spots. Securing these caches can significantly boost your arsenal.
Lastly, picking a weapon that complements your class is vital. For instance, an Assault player won’t find a sniper rifle very useful up close.
What Are Red Guns?
Red guns represent your personal favorite weapon loadouts that you have customized and upgraded outside of REDSEC matches (typically used in Battlefield 6’s main multiplayer mode). These weapons are accessible through Custom Weapon Drops—special supplies that appear on the map as torpedo-like pods emerging from the ground.
By interacting with these drops, you can select from your entire list of “Favorite” weapons. Depending on how extensively you’ve upgraded them, red guns can outperform or sometimes be outclassed by purple or gold-tier weapons found in the environment.
Choosing the Right Class in REDSEC
When entering REDSEC, you select your class, each with unique tools and weapon proficiencies similar to Battlefield 6. For example, the Engineer comes equipped with a blowtorch that helps open safes and containers.
Ideally, a squad will have a good balance of classes to maximize versatility and survival chances.
How Does Reviving Work?
When you lose all your armor and health, you go down to the ground, where you can crawl to safety. A teammate can then revive you before a timer runs out. If the timer reaches zero or enemies finish you off, you die.
REDSEC features a relatively forgiving revive system, especially in the early minutes of the match. If you die early, you can parachute back into the battle and rejoin your squad. However, as the match progresses, “second chances” expire—meaning death becomes much more permanent.
Once these second chances are gone, reviving downed allies requires visiting a redeploy point. This process takes time and alerts nearby players with a respawn alarm, adding risk to the revive attempt.

What Are Missions in REDSEC?
Throughout the match, REDSEC offers you a selection of optional missions every few minutes. Completing these missions rewards you with valuable airdrops including powerful weapons, airstrike equipment, or keycards that grant access to tanks.
Typical mission objectives include traveling to specific locations, destroying or carrying items, transmitting data, or other tasks. Once you accept a mission, on-screen icons and brief instructions will guide you to your objectives.
Some missions require combat with other players, so be prepared for PvP engagements as you pursue your goals.
