Ohio State football remains undefeated this season, continuing their dominant run with a 38-14 victory over the struggling Penn State Nittany Lions on Saturday. The Buckeyes’ momentum shows no signs of slowing down.
Quarterback Julian Sayin had a monster day, throwing for 316 passing yards and four touchdowns. His outstanding performance has caught the attention of many, including NBC Sports reporter Nicole Auerbach, who has been vocal in endorsing Sayin.
Auerbach highlighted Sayin’s impressive statistics this season, noting that he leads all Football Bowl Subdivision quarterbacks in completion percentage at 80.7%, which is more than seven percentage points ahead of the next best. Additionally, he ranks second in the country in passes of 40-plus yards and third nationally in total passing touchdowns with 23.
“He is undoubtedly one of the best quarterbacks in the country,” Auerbach wrote for NBC. “And perhaps he should be considered the new favorite to win the sport’s most coveted individual award.”
Ohio State currently holds an 8-0 record overall and 5-0 in Big Ten play. As the defending national champions, the Buckeyes look like one of the nation’s top teams this year, boasting an impressive resume. Following a season-opening win over Texas, Ohio State has continued to dominate their Big Ten opponents, with Sayin playing a major role in their success.
So far this season, Sayin has thrown for 2,188 passing yards and 23 touchdowns, while limiting himself to just three interceptions. His head coach, Ryan Day, believes Sayin deserves to be in the Heisman Trophy conversation.
“I do think if Julian continues to play the way he is playing, he deserves to be in the conversation, at the very least,” Day said, according to USA Today.
Looking ahead, the Buckeyes still have key games remaining against Purdue, Rutgers, UCLA, and Michigan. With their strong performance this season, Ohio State is striving to earn a spot in the College Football Playoff once again.
