There’s been a notable hitch in Rockstar Games’ plans this week as the developer continues to work on Grand Theft Auto 6. Recently, Rockstar laid off over 30 employees. While the company claims these layoffs were due to “gross misconduct,” a labor group has alleged that the terminations were connected to union activity.
Bloomberg originally reported on the alleged layoffs ahead of the weekend, revealing that “between 30 and 40 people” had been let go as more details emerged. Following this, the IWGB Game Workers group shared additional information and criticized Rockstar in a statement posted on social media.
Most of the gaming community has been eagerly awaiting Grand Theft Auto 6, with Rockstar aiming for a May 2026 release. The game has already faced several delays, and this recent controversy could potentially cause further postponements—or at least be cited as a reason if another delay occurs.
With the series returning to the Florida-inspired Vice City, many fans are expecting an extravagantly over-the-top commentary on modern society in the upcoming installment.
