Child abuser Jake Haro was sentenced to 25 years to life on Monday for torturing and murdering his defenseless 7-month-old son, Emmanuel, whose tiny body has still not been found.
Haro, who pled guilty to a second-degree murder charge in Riverside County Superior Court in California last month, shook his head and wiped tears from his eyes as the judge read the sentence, according to a live stream from Channel 3 News.
The 32-year-old killer dad was also handed an aggregate sentence of 180 days plus six years and eight months for separate charges of assault causing bodily harm to a child and filing a false report.
Emmanuel was reported missing in Cabazon, California, on August 14 by his 41-year-old mother, who claimed she was attacked by Hispanic men who abducted their baby outside a sporting goods store in San Bernardino. However, investigators did not buy the Haros’ version of events, citing inconsistencies in their story.
Police stormed the Haros’ home and arrested both Jake and his wife, Rebecca Haro, on August 22. Rebecca, who is also charged with murder, pleaded not guilty to an updated criminal complaint.
According to a source who spoke to NewsNation, Jake allegedly admitted to a fake, police-planted inmate that he killed Emmanuel and dumped the baby’s body in a trash can. He also reportedly told police that he accidentally smothered the boy while he was sleeping and buried his body.
The updated complaint filed on Thursday alleges that the duo carried out the crimes “with planning, sophistication and professionalism.” They took advantage of their position of trust as parents, preying on a “particularly vulnerable” victim—their baby boy.
Prosecutors also revealed that Jake had a previous conviction for child abuse and was serving probation when he killed Emmanuel. In that prior case, he viciously beat his 10-week-old daughter, Carolina, leaving her disabled for life. Shockingly, he received no prison time for the brutal abuse—only probation.
