Senior guard Donovan Dent had an impressive debut for UCLA, scoring 21 points and providing nine assists to lead the No. 12 Bruins to an 80-74 victory over Eastern Washington in their season opener on Monday night.
Tyler Bilodeau also contributed significantly, adding 19 points as the Bruins built a 15-point lead midway through the second half. However, the Eagles of the Big Sky Conference made the game close in the final minutes, keeping fans on the edge of their seats.
Dent, a highly regarded transfer from New Mexico, delivered a memorable performance during his Southern California homecoming. Having played at Centennial High in Corona, he developed a strong relationship with UCLA coach Mick Cronin, a connection that helped him realize his dream of suiting up at Pauley Pavilion.
For Eastern Washington, Isaiah Moses led the team with 15 points, while Alton Hamilton IV added 13 points in the losing effort.
