Toronto Blue Jays superstar Vladimir Guerrero Jr. delivered remarkable numbers in the postseason, helping push the AL East team to the brink of their first World Series title in more than three decades. However, Guerrero Jr.’s season came to a heartbreaking end with a 5-4 loss in Game 7 of the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Despite falling short in his pursuit of a first World Series ring, Guerrero Jr. received a hero’s welcome in the Dominican Republic. His wife, Nathalie, shared glimpses of a parade held in honor of the Blue Jays infielder, who signed a $500 million deal with the franchise earlier this year.
In one of the videos Nathalie shared on Instagram, the ALCS MVP was seen grooving to music alongside his friends and family during the celebratory parade. Born in Montreal, Canada, Guerrero Jr. moved to Santiago, Dominican Republic, with his mother at a young age. He spent much of his childhood in Santiago and Don Gregorio, where his uncle Wikton played a key role in training him in baseball.
### Season Performance and Postseason Impact
During the regular season, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. slashed .292/.381/.467 with an .848 OPS and 23 home runs. While these numbers were solid, they didn’t set the league on fire. However, Guerrero Jr. truly shined in the postseason, batting an impressive .397, hitting eight home runs, and driving in 15 RBIs.
His outstanding performances earned him the ALCS MVP award for his heroics against the Seattle Mariners.
### Silver Slugger Award Outcome
Despite his remarkable postseason, Guerrero Jr. fell short in the Silver Slugger voting for first base. The award went to Athletics rookie Nick Kurtz, who had a breakout season, slashing .290/.383/.619 with a 173 OPS+ and 36 home runs. Kurtz became the first rookie first baseman to win the Silver Slugger since Jose Abreu in 2014 and is also a frontrunner for the AL Rookie of the Year award.
Guerrero Jr. was aiming for his second consecutive Silver Slugger, having won the award twice earlier in his career. Although he missed out this time, his postseason heroics and continued development signal a bright future ahead for the young Blue Jays slugger.
