Chris Padilla kept the pressure on Ismael Bonfim after a significant weight miss prior to UFC Fight Night 264, and eventually, Bonfim crumbled under the onslaught.
Bonfim (20-6 MMA, 2-3 UFC) came in at 161 pounds for the scheduled lightweight bout on Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. The Brazilian started strong, coming out throwing big shots, but ultimately, his gas tank failed him as the fight progressed.
Padilla (17-6 MMA, 4-0 UFC) capitalized on Bonfim’s fatigue. He landed a hard shot, secured a dominant position on the ground while Bonfim was turtled, and unleashed a barrage of punches until the referee stopped the fight via TKO at the 4:30 mark of Round 2.
“I want to be known as the best MMA fighter ever,” Padilla said in his post-fight interview with Paul Felder. “I need money more than anything. I need money. I’ll fight anybody, but I need to take care of my family first. It’s hard to sleep at night knowing my family is struggling.”
