**A Democrat Furry Is Running to Represent Michigan’s 7th District in the US House of Representatives**

Samuel Smeltzer, a 36-year-old Democrat who identifies as a furry under the name “Elyon Badger,” is running to represent Michigan’s 7th district in the US House of Representatives. Smeltzer, who is an LGBTQ activist, small business owner, and Michigan Army National Guard veteran, has stirred controversy with a series of provocative statements on social media.
According to his campaign webpage, Smeltzer’s platform includes universal healthcare, legalizing marijuana, building a high-speed railway system, and providing free public college and trade school education.
On social media platform Bluesky, Smeltzer has made inflammatory remarks, including advocating for rounding up “every single red hat wearing MAGA” and placing them in “hard labor camps for the rest of their lives.” He has also claimed that “Jesus was a communist” and controversially stated that “America deserved 9/11.”
On TikTok, Smeltzer posted a call to “kill billionaires,” referencing news items about SNAP benefits running low amid a government shutdown and the approval of a shareholder package for Tesla’s Elon Musk.
Following the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, Smeltzer posted several comments referring to Kirk as a “massive loser.” Hours after Kirk’s death, he wrote, “good things can happen,” and questioned, “how can we defe
