India batter Dhruv Jurel was dismissed cheaply on Day 3 (Sunday, November 16) of the ongoing first Test against South Africa at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. His wicket fell off the final delivery of the 15th over in India’s second innings.
Simon Harmer bowled a short, rank long hop that held up slightly off the surface. Jurel attempted to pull the ball but completely miscued it, catching it off the toe end of the bat. The simple catch was taken by Corbin Bosch at deep mid-wicket. The right-handed batter fell for 13 runs off 34 deliveries, including three boundaries.
Jurel’s dismissal left India in trouble at 33/3 after 15 overs. At the time of writing, India were 38/3 after 18 overs, needing 86 more runs to win. Washington Sundar was at the crease with 22 runs, alongside Rishabh Pant, who was on 2.
### South Africa’s Batting and Target Setting
Temba Bavuma’s unbeaten fifty helped South Africa set a target of 124 runs for India in this first Test.
Opting to bat first, South Africa were bowled out for 159 runs in 55 overs during their first innings. Jasprit Bumrah starred for India, claiming a five-wicket haul. In response, KL Rahul top-scored for India with 39 runs, helping the hosts reach 189 all out in 62.2 overs, securing a 30-run first-innings lead.
Simon Harmer was the standout bowler for South Africa in the first innings, taking four wickets, while Marco Jansen chipped in with three.
In their second innings, South Africa struggled again, slipping to 60/5. However, skipper Temba Bavuma held firm at one end. Bavuma and Corbin Bosch (who scored 25) put together a crucial 44-run partnership for the eighth wicket.
Bavuma ended unbeaten on 55 runs off 136 deliveries, hitting four boundaries. South Africa were eventually bowled out for 153 runs in 54 overs, setting India a modest target of 124 runs to win the match.
