Toulouse’s Francis Abu to undergo surgery on horror injury in Japan due to travel risk

Francis Abu (24) suffered a horrific injury during Ghana’s recent game against Japan on Friday. In an unfortunate incident, Ao Tanaka, unaware of Abu’s approach, made contact with the Toulouse FC player’s lower leg, resulting in a severe injury.

Abu was immediately stretchered off and taken straight to hospital. According to L’Équipe, he has sustained a double fracture involving both the tibia and fibula.

Tanaka promptly apologized for his role in the incident. After discussions between the Toulouse and Ghana medical staff, it was decided that Abu would undergo surgery in Japan, due to the risks associated with traveling while the injury remains untreated.

The midfielder has made eight appearances for Toulouse FC since his summer move from Cercle Brugge. Unfortunately, this injury means Abu is expected to miss the remainder of the current season.

More significantly, he is also likely to miss next summer’s FIFA World Cup, for which Ghana has already secured qualification. This represents a major setback for both the player and his national team.
