Aaron Rodgers is believed to have sustained a “sight break” in his left, non-throwing wrist, which forced him to exit Sunday’s 34-12 Steelers victory over the Bengals late in the second quarter.
Rodgers, who spent two seasons with the Jets before arriving in Pittsburgh, will undergo further testing on Monday to determine the severity of the injury and the expected length of his absence, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Mason Rudolph entered the game to start the second half for the Steelers. At that time, the team listed Rodgers as questionable to return due to the left hand injury. Rodgers had thrown an incomplete pass on his final attempt before leaving the game.
Before exiting, Rodgers finished with 116 yards on 9-of-15 passing and a touchdown. The injury appeared to occur near the end of the first half when Rodgers was tackled after releasing the ball, landing awkwardly on his left wrist and hand.
Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin spoke with reporters after the game, sharing an update on Rodgers. “He was excited about the win,” Tomlin said. “I just talked to him, but that’s all we talked about. We didn’t talk about his injury. We talked about the significance of the win.”
When asked whether Rodgers could have returned in the second half, Tomlin was non-committal. “I don’t have the answer to that to be honest with you,” he said. “I’ll have more information next time we talk.”
Entering Week 11, Rodgers had recorded 183 completions for 1,853 yards, 18 touchdowns, and seven interceptions, playing a key role in helping lead the Steelers to a 5-4 record.
After coming into the game, Mason Rudolph completed 12 of 16 passes for 127 yards and a touchdown against the Bengals, helping secure the Steelers’ victory.
