With construction yet to begin on the new Long Beach Amphitheater, the venue has already announced its first booking. Heavy metal band Mötley Crüe will play on Sept. 19 at the 11, 000-seat venue set to be erected next to the Queen Mary, venue staff announced today. The venue’s first official show will likely take place on a different day before the Mötley Crüe concert, but details for that show have not yet been announced, said Loren Simpson, communications director for Mayor Rex Richardson. Construction should begin in early December at the 5-acre site adjacent to the Queen Mary, Simpson said, adding that the city was still awaiting final approvals. Mötley Crüe’s concert comes as part of a 33-city North American tour to mark the band’s 45th anniversary and the 20th anniversary of its Carnival of Sins tour. “This new show is for the Crüeheads who’ve been with us through it all and for the new Crüeheads who didn’t get to experience Carnival of Sins last time around,” the band said in a statement. Presale tickets for the concert begin at 9 a. m. Thursday, with general admission tickets set to open at 9 a. m. on Friday. Earlier this month, the city’s Planning Commission finalized plans for the venue’s construction and schedule of events. Construction will remove the 660-space lot meant for overflow parking at the Queen Mary and erect 36-foot-high grandstands that face a 51-foot-high stage. The venue was originally expected to be built ahead of the 2026 spring season, but is now scheduled to be finished by the summer. Once built, it will operate for 10 years with the goal of attracting prominent music acts and shows to Long Beach. Planners estimated the venue will draw more than 300, 000 people annually to more than 100 shows at the amphitheater, ranging from large concerts to smaller community events.
