megabank creator withdraws from game awards feature

Developer vedinad has withdrawn Megabonk from The Game Awards 2025. The game had been nominated for Best Debut Indie Game, but the creator notes that this is actually not their first game. On November 18, 2025, the official Megabonk social media account announced that it is withdrawing from The Game Awards. Megabonk was nominated in the Best Debut Indie Game category alongside Blue Prince, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Despelote, and Dispatch. The developer, vedinad, states that they think their game does not qualify for the category as they’ve “made games in the past under different studio names, so Megabonk is not my debut game.” The post continues: i really appreciate the nomination, support and votes, but it doesn’t feel right in this category. you should vote for another one of the amazing debut titles, they are all amazing games! thanks again! new megabonk update coming soon ✌️ john megabank The replies congratulate the developer on being “based” but also note that some of the other games in the category are also not debut titles from developers. Halo: Combat Evolved developer Jaime Griesemer, who has been critiquing the upcoming Halo: Campaign Evolved remake, wrote, “A couple years ago a ‘new’ studio that was a bunch of AAAA devs between projects and funded by a massive publisher won this category. It just means ‘Best Game w a New Logo’.”.
