The Grand Rapids Griffins’ season-opening points streak was snapped at 12 games Friday following a 2-1 loss to the Charlotte Checkers at Van Andel Arena, their first in regulation this season. The Griffins’ 11-1-0-1 record stands as the best start in franchise history. They were the last team in North American pro hockey to lose in regulation. Cooper Black made 40 saves for Charlotte (9-4-1). Tyler Angle scored the Griffins’ lone goal, his first with the team, at 7: 16 of the third period to cut Charlotte’s lead to 2-1. Michael Bennings and Colton Huard scored for the Checkers against Sebastian Cossa, who stopped 26-of-28 shots. The teams meet again tonight at 7 at Van Andel Arena.
