Kevin Spacey is setting the record straight. The “House of Cards” star, 66, clarified that he’s not homeless after his recent comments about his current living situation made headlines. “I don’t usually make it my business to correct the media,” Spacey stated in an Instagram video shared Sunday. “If I did, I wouldn’t have time for much else, but in light of the recent articles claiming that I am homeless, I feel the need to respond,” he continued. “Not to the press, but to the thousands of people who have reached out over the past few days, offering me a place to stay, or who have just asked if I’m OK.” Spacey added, “And to all of you, let me say that I’m truly touched by your generosity, full stop. But I feel like it would be disingenuous of me to allow you to believe that I’m indeed homeless in the colloquial sense.” The two-time Oscar winner then brought up his recent interview with the Telegraph titled “Kevin Spacey interview: Homeless, cancelled and crooning in Cyprus” where he opened up about the state of his life eight years after his sexual abuse scandal tarnished his career. “In my conversation with Mick Brown, the wonderful journalist who wrote the story that was in the Telegraph where this rumor first began, I said I was basically living in hotels and Airbnbs and going where the work is, just as I did when I first started in this business,” Spacey said in his video. “I’ve been working nearly nonstop this entire year, and for that, I have so much to be grateful for.” “And there are many people, as we know, who are living on the streets or in their cars or in terrible financial situations, and my heart goes out to them,” Spacey went on, before clarifying that he’s not homeless. “It’s clear from the article itself that I am not one of them, nor was I attempting to say that I was, which is why it was a shame that the Telegraph decided to undermine the work of their own journalist by selling him out with a knowingly misleading headline for the sake of clicks,” the “Baby Driver” star said. Spacey concluded, “Thank you for just paying attention for a few minutes, and for indulging me, and for all the kindness that you’ve shown me. Thank you. See you soon.” During his interview with the Telegraph, Spacey explained his struggles after he was banished from Hollywood for his scandal. “I’m living in hotels, I’m living in Airbnbs,” Spacey said. “I literally have no home, that’s what I’m attempting to explain,” he added. The “Unusual Suspects” star who lost his Baltimore home to foreclosure last year also admitted that his financial situation was “not great” after his 2023 criminal trial. “The costs over these last seven years have been astronomical,” he shared. “I’ve had very little coming in and everything going out.” In 2017, Spacey was accused of committing sex offenses against four men between 2004 and 2013 while he was serving as artistic director at London’s historic Old Vic Theatre. He was charged with nine separate counts, including sexual assault and causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent. He denied all the allegations. The Golden Globe winner was deemed innocent in July 2023 and acquitted of all nine charges. He also won a sexual abuse case against alleged victim and fellow actor Anthony Rapp in 2022. In the Telegraph interview, Spacey said he’s traveling “where the work” is to make a career comeback. “Everything is in storage, and I hope at some point, if things continue to improve, that I’ll be able to decide where I want to settle down again,” he added.
