With the rebranding of GDC 2026 to the Festival of Gaming, the event is set to bring in a huge name to headline its keynote: Hideo Kojima.
Kojima will deliver a keynote speech discussing his journey to becoming an independent developer and sharing valuable lessons he learned along the way. This exciting announcement was revealed in a press release shared with Shacknews.
Titled “Restarting from Zero: A Message to Creators Considering Independence,” Kojima’s keynote will delve into his infamous departure from Konami and the path he took to establish his own studio, Kojima Productions.
“Hideo Kojima is one of the most influential creative voices of our time; his work has shaped how the world experiences games,” said Nina Brown, President of GDC, in a release shared by Epic Games.
“Having Kojima-san headline the GDC Festival of Gaming sets the perfect tone for what this new era is all about: fearless creativity, bold ideas, and elevating the entire game-making ecosystem. His journey embodies the spirit of reinvention that so many in the industry are navigating right now.”
