If you take a moment during your quest for vengeance in Ghost of Yotei, you might find yourself struck by the breathtaking beauty of the world around you. One way to capture this beauty is by painting Sumi-e, traditional ink wash paintings, scattered throughout the game. Not only does painting enhance your experience, but it can also earn you some valuable rewards.
How to Find and Create Sumi-e
All you need to do is travel to the Sumi-e locations and interact with the kneeling mat available there. Atsu, your companion, will take some time to paint a nearby scene for you. Approach these spots slowly and carefully, as any sudden movements might scare away the local wildlife, affecting the painting experience.

Ishikari Plains
- The Crashing Waves Sumi-e – On the southwest coast of Ishikari Plains. Reward: Headband of Defiance.
- The Defiant Roots Sumi-e – Located in the northern Ishikari Plains. Reward: Headband of Fortitude.
- The Chatting Crows Sumi-e – Found in the east of Ishikari Plains. Reward: Hat of Messengers.
Tokachi Range
- The Free Skies Sumi-e – In the western part of Tokachi Range. Reward: Mask of Freedom.
- The Season’s Colors Sumi-e – Near the lakes on the eastern side of Tokachi Range. Reward: Headband of Seasons.
Nayoro Wilds
- The Peaceful Kotan Sumi-e – West of the entrance to Nayoro Wilds. Reward: Mask of Community.
- The Drying Bark Sumi-e – Also west of the Nayoro Wilds entrance. Reward: Headband of Tranquility.
Teshio Ridge
- The Frozen Moment Sumi-e – Located in the west of Teshio Ridge. Reward: Mask of Slumber.
- The Howling Pack Sumi-e – In the east of Teshio Ridge. Reward: Headband of the Wild.
Oshima Coast
- The Imperial Sakura Sumi-e – Found in the south of Oshima Coast. Reward: Hat of Refinement.
- The Lost Flight Sumi-e – Located in the north of Oshima Coast. Reward: Mask of Remembrance.
