Quinn Ewers explained how he motivated his teammates to play at a high level in the Miami Dolphins’ 20-17 upset win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday afternoon.
Ewers is going through the final stretch of his rookie campaign with the Dolphins. He has taken over the starting job since Week 16 after Miami benched Tua Tagovailoa following the team’s playoff elimination. Ewers delivered a solid performance in his second career start, helping Miami pull off the upset. He completed 14 passes out of 22 attempts for 172 yards and two touchdowns.
The rookie quarterback reflected on the win after the game, according to ESPN reporter Marcel Louis-Jacques. It was during the postgame press conference that he revealed the motivation he shared with the team, which helped provide that extra spark of energy to beat Tampa Bay.
“It’s important that you tell your teammates how you feel and how you want them to play, whether it’s my second start or, God willing, I’m playing four or five years from now. It’s always going to be the same message,” Ewers said.
“You’ve got to find out what makes these guys tick and what makes these guys go, but it just comes with the shoes.”

Running back De’Von Achane contributed with a solid performance on both the ground and through the air, carrying the ball 18 times for 83 yards and making three receptions for 29 yards. Greg Dulcich led the receiving corps with five catches for 58 yards, including a touchdown. Meanwhile, Theo Wease Jr. pulled off a spectacular 63-yard reception for a touchdown.
With this win, Miami improved to a 7-9 record on the season, currently holding third place in the AFC East Division standings. They sit above the New York Jets while trailing the Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots.
