Federal officials are investigating a disruption of worship services that occurred at the church on Sunday, January 18. According to reports, protesters entered the sanctuary chanting anti-ICE slogans, causing a disturbance during the service.
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi emphasized that intimidation of Christians is unlawful, stating that the Department of Justice will prosecute any federal crimes connected to the incident.
DOJ Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon said that potential civil rights violations and infractions under the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act are currently under review, according to the Associated Press.
Multiple news reports also indicate that church members were confronted by protesters in the parking lot after services concluded.
The North American Mission Board confirmed that NAMB missionary Jonathan Parnell was leading the worship service at Cities Church during the protest, Baptist Press reported.
