Über Diablo (2024)

Über Diablo or theDiablo Clone, is a more challenging variant of Diablo that appears in Diablo II. He is the first Über boss to appear in the franchise.

In-game[]

Diablo II[]

Über Diablo is a boss-level monster that spawns only on Hell difficultygames on Battle.net when a certain number of Stone of JordanRings are sold to merchants. A notification is displayed onscreen whenever a Stone of Jordan is sold, indicating the number that have been sold. Once a certain number is reached, the whole screen shakes and the words 'Diablo walks the earth' appear on the screen. This message means that Über Diablo is ready to spawn. He will spawn in place of the first super-unique monster a player encounters; Eldritch the Rectifier, Bishibosh, Rakanishu or even Corpsefire in the Den of Evil would be replaced by him. Therefore players can basically choose the location for Uber Diablo by going specifically to the desired super-unique location.

He is similar in appearance to Hell level Diablo and is a formidable challenge. It is recommended to have Prevents Monster Heal and/or Open Wounds, high lightning and fire resistance and physical Damage Reduction before taking on Über Diablo. Non-physical damage builds should consider items that reduce enemy resistances, to overwhelm Diablo's defences and self-healing.

Upon killing, Über Diablo drops the only Unique Small Charm in the game, the Annihilus charm. Along with Ondal's Wisdom, it is one of two items in the game that gives '+ to experience gained'.

In game, the monster is simply named Diablo, but he is frequently referred to as Über Diablo by both official sources and fans.^[1]

Diablo II: Resurrected[]

In Diablo II: Resurrected, Über Diablo spawns across all worlds in a realm once enough Stone of Jordan rings are sold.

The following messages begin appearing to all players in the realm depending on how many of the rings are sold, in descending order until Über Diablo appears:

1. Terror gazes upon Sanctuary
2. Terror approaches Sanctuary
3. Terror begins to form within Sanctuary
4. Terror spreads across Sanctuary
5. Terror is about to be unleashed upon Sanctuary
6. Diablo has invaded Sanctuary

Spawning[]

Selling Stones of Jordan to a vendor in a game gives an onscreen indicator of how many SoJs have been sold on the internet protocol (IP) of that game's server. The message "XXXX "Stones of Jordan sold to merchant" will likewise appear on every game running on that IP (ladder and non ladder). Since the beginning of 2018, ladder and non ladder are separated by IP.^{[clarification needed]} When the required amount of SoJs are sold (between 75 and 120), Über Diablo will spawn in every Hell difficulty game running on that IP (both ladder and non-ladder). The amount of SoJs shown in the on-screen message does not represent the amount of SoJs sold since the last spawn, rather that of the total amount of the rings sold.

Diablo III[]

An increased-difficulty version of Diablo named the Soul of Evil appears in the Realm of Fright for players that use the corresponding Infernal Machine. This boss has most of the same abilities as in the normal Diablo III encounter, but instead of sending players to the Realm of Terror, he summons two additional Über bosses from the other Infernal Machine events. Fighting up to three Über bosses at once recalls the Pandemonium Event rather than Über Diablo specifically, but until season 19 this was the only equivalent in the game.

Season 19 brought a different version, which (similar the original Über Diablo) could appear in any zone, this time triggered by a very long kill streak. He is extremely powerful and drops all infernal machines, greater rift keystones, as well as other random items.

An Über Diablo equivalent for Diablo III had been under consideration since shortly after the release of its expansion pack.^[2]
